Fighting loneliness with social business - founding captains Max and Philipp spill the beans

On 30 November 2023 at 17:00 we welcome Maximilian Voß and Phillip Koeppen as founding captains of Bio24, the StartUP against loneliness.

The figures are alarming: a good quarter of adults in Germany feel lonely. A full 40 % of people between the ages of 60 and 69 say they only socialise between zero and four times on an average weekday. It doesn't have to be this way and at least in Poppendorf near Rostock, two dedicated founders have changed that. Brothers Philipp and Max have set up a social business together with a small team. Bio24 is the lively village centre of Poppendorf, with a café, village shop and manufactory. Together with senior citizens, they produce organic food and create a counterbalance to loneliness and poverty in old age.

By providing meaningful employment, the Bio24 crew creates an opportunity for older people to leave isolation and pursue activities they have already grown fond of - cooking and baking delicious home cooking. Bio24's products are not only the result of grandma and grandpa's years of expertise, but above all a lot of passion and love. When it comes to production, the main focus is on fun, dialogue and community. The products are made on the adventure farm - a converted pigsty - in Poppendorf and are sold in the village shop and café as well as online at bio24.de.

While Maximilian, a business administrator, is more responsible for commercial matters, Philipp, a trained deacon, takes care of the social aspects of their company. Together, they talk about their different perspectives on the original start-up idea, further steps and (bureaucratic) obstacles."
