A jury of experts assessed the financial, technical and organisational implementation of the business concepts of the participating start-up teams. They presented a broad spectrum of innovative business ideas in the technology fields of digitalisation, health, education and the environment. "This is the second time we have held the competition across universities and this year we were once again able to mobilise innovative and fascinating business concepts from students and university staff," says Heinrich Cuypers from the start-up agency Stapellauf NORD°OST° of the participating universities of Stralsund, Neubrandenburg and the University of Greifswald. "It should be emphasised that two of the start-up teams are using the synergies of cross-university collaboration."

In recent years, an average of one to two start-ups per year have emerged from the competitions. "As a result of last year, we were able to report four start-ups. And we are optimistic that we will be able to confirm this figure for 2022," says Dr Stefan Seiberling, Head of the Centre for Research Promotion and Transfer (ZFF) at the University of Greifswald.

These are the winners in detail:

1st place: HanseDeeg - The low carb shipyard wants to rethink well-known potato products, from gnocchi to chips, and produce them in a low-carb version with an innovatively modified nutritional profile and sell them both online and in bricks-and-mortar stores. The products are produced in organic quality, low in calories and carbohydrates, high in protein and fibre, vegan, tasty and healthy.
Andreas Moll from the winning team HanseDeeg is delighted with the first place: "We are proud that our business concept was able to prevail against the competition from three universities. This gives us the courage to continue on our path of founding a company. Now it's time to take the next steps, develop our products further and place them on the market."

2nd place: Bonanza - Share to Care is a social entrepreneurial project that aims to establish a second-hand shop with a non-profit structure. Part of the sales proceeds will be used to support local environmental and nature conservation projects. Bonanza's mission is to reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry by keeping clothes in the economic cycle for longer and working exclusively with local fair fashion labels.

3rd place: The Bienenstich-Metmanufaktur OHG would like to produce honey wine (mead) from regional ingredients and without flavourings and colourings. It will be bottled and kegged. An in-house deposit system is planned for the barrels in order to reduce sales and transport packaging.

The special prize from the University of Greifswald goes to the N-easy team, which aims to optimise nitrogen supply in rapeseed cultivation with a new, patent-pending process.
